Just Wing It!

Spotlight on...
with Janne GuitarGirl

Local Te Puke band Wing It cover mostly rock, blues, and country. The band consists of Keith Birley on guitar and vocals, Karl Forbes on bass, and Laurie Nelson on drums.

Sometimes, they are joined by back up members Wayne Jones, who also plays bass, and drummers Raymond Daysh, Eric Williams, and Dave West. And sometimes they are joined by cafe owner Marg, and also Jo, who both add vocals and backing vocals.

They‘ve also performed some original songs written by Keith, who says he‘s working on more, and wishes he had more time to devote to this because they‘ve been busy during summer playing at pubs, cafes and at private functions.

On Boxing Day, they played at Mount Maunganui on the boat belonging to the owners of the Funky Lizard Cafe, Roger and Marg. The boat was in Pilot Bay, an unusual setting for a band, so they had a blast and turned a few heads, getting a great response from their audience.

Wing It has been the regular band playing on a fortnightly basis at the Funky Lizard Cafe in Paengaroa during the last couple of years, and they‘re playing there again this Sunday, April 9, from 1pm-5pm. It's a great little venue, with indoor or outdoor dining, a bar, scrumptious food, friendly staff, and a quirky collection of interesting bits and bobs in the gallery and in the gift shop. So if you're off for a Sunday drive, do check them out.
